“Reaching Out for Kids provides young people of all backgrounds, an opportunity to develop through golf, character education, life enhancing values such as honesty, integrity, and sportsmanship, thus increasing their potential for success.”
We believe that children who have positive experiences in the field of sports have a greater interest in school and see college as the next step in their education. Unfortunately, many of our children overlook the exciting and challenging sport of golf. For many young people, the only way they can go to college is through a sports scholarship. Unfortunately, many are not aware of the scholarship opportunities available through golf, a sport that is just as important as all the others.
Reaching Out for Kids, is a co-ed junior golf program for youth, ages 3-17 years of age. The program started in 1997 through the efforts of assistant golf professional Ron Dumas introduces youth to the game of golf and at the same time, children learn how to become healthy and productive persons. We believe our approach is innovative and fun as we help increase the potential for a healthy life style as youth and later as adults. Our focus is on character education and life enhancing values where respect, self-determination, good sportsmanship and a commitment to personal growth and achievement serve as the core of the program, all through the sport of golf. The summer program has relocated to Avon Fields Golf Course and has grown to approximately 300 participants each summer. (To be continue)
